The Estefan family is facing a difficult moment after Emily Estefan, the youngest daughter of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, was involved in a domestic altercation with her partner, Gemeny Hernandez. According to reports released by TMZ, Gemeny Hernandez was arrested on Tuesday, October 28, on charges of aggravated robbery and minor assault.
According to statements, the two had an argument at their shared home in Miami. The situation reportedly began over a cell phone. It escalated when Gemeny allegedly struck Emily with the device on her head, causing a bruise around her left eye and several scratches on the right side of her neck.
As soon as Emily Estefan retrieved her phone, she called emergency services, who responded to the scene and proceeded to arrest Gemeny Hernandez. So far, neither Emily Estefan nor her parents has made any public comments about the incident.
Who Is Gemeny Hernandez?
As of this writing, Gemeny, 31, remains in custody awaiting her court hearing. At this hearing, a judge will formally read her charges, decide whether to maintain both cases, and set bail for her release.
Gemeny Hernandez was in a relationship with Emily Estefan for eight years and was the first partner Emily introduced publicly. On Instagram, where she has nearly 40,000 followers, she describes herself as an “occasional writer, accidental stylist, reluctant musician, and perpetual producer.”
Hernandez works as a concert and music event producer and graduated from Florida International University (FIU). Just days before the incident, she served as a producer for iHeart Radio’s Fiesta Latina event, where Emily Estefan performed under the concept “Emily & Friends” alongside artists Lauren Jauregui, Joaquina, Cimafunk, and Tony Succar, with Enrique Santos as host.
The event took place on Thursday, October 23, in Miami, Florida. In a post promoting the show, she hinted that things between her and Emily seemed to be going well. On October 13, Gemeny shared the event poster on social media with the caption: “I’m overflowing with excitement for what promises to be one of the most wonderful events I’ve ever produced. I’m lucky to be surrounded by musicians I admire and who are also people I love. Emily is first on that list.”
Emily Estefan and Gemeny Hernandez began dating in 2016, but it wasn’t until the following year that they made their relationship public by attending a tribute to Gloria Estefan at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Gemeny, who has played the violin since childhood and has a passion for cooking, reportedly maintained a good relationship with the entire Estefan family—including Lili Estefan, Emilio and Gloria’s niece, as well as her children, Lina Teresa and Lorenzo Jr.
Her bond with Emily’s parents was especially warm. She often expressed affection for them publicly, such as on Emilio Estefan’s birthday two years ago, when she dedicated a heartfelt post: “Father, husband, uncle, son, artist, exemplary man.
