Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia won't be playing against the Blue Jays in the World Series. The announcement was made earlier this week, revealing that Vesia would be stepping back from the competition due to a personal matter.
The statement was shared by the Dodgers, giving Vesia their support. "It's with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter," reads the statement.
"The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date."
Over the past months, Vesia and his wife Kayla have been sharing details of their pregnancy journey. In a recent Instagram reel, Vesia and Kayla are seen lip-syncing along to a viral audio of Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian from "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."
The reel is a reference to how busy the couple is, showing Kayla supporting Vesia on the baseball field and carrying out their everyday activities. "Saturday: maybe have a baby," she wrote.
Her most recent posts have celebrated Vesia's performance in his baseball matches and the Dodgers' making it to the World Series. One of her recent posts shows her hugging a shirtless Vesia on the pitch, as the Dodgers' celebrate behind him. "Onto the NLCS we go! Proud of you mí bebe," she captioned it.

Aside from the team's statement, no further details have been revealed. The Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, was asked about Vesia's absence in a press conference, with him sharing no personal details.
“I think right now we’re in the mode of trying to understand the process, the rules — a way that we can sort of try to navigate the roster,” he said. “We’re going through the process of trying to backfill his spot on the roster.”
He said that it wasn't clear if Vesia would be available at any point in the World Series.
Vesia is 29 years old and has been one of the most consistent parts of the Dodgers this season. Per The Athletic, he's had 68 appearances this year and has allowed no runs in his last six appearances this postseason.
