“We are deeply saddened to announce that our son Len passed away a few weeks ago after a long and serious illness. Making this public now is an extremely difficult decision for us, but it’s an important step for us as a family to bring clarity to those around us and to the public. Together with our daughter, we are now trying to find our way back to life, step by step,” the statement begins.

“We are especially grateful to our families, friends, and FC Bayern Munich for their discretion and incredible support over the past few months, which means a lot to us. We ask the public and the media to be considerate and respect our privacy. Please refrain from asking further questions or making statements. Lisa and Sven.”

The soccer player is facing this devastating loss during a very strong moment in his professional career, as he recently renewed his contract with the German club until 2026. He has always played under the shadow of Manuel Neuer. Sven has carried out his role at the Bavarian club with great strength and dignity as he heads into his tenth season, guarding the goal for Bayern Munich.

Sven has enjoyed a decade of glory in Munich, winning a total of 19 titles, including a Champions League and eight Bundesliga trophies, which is the top domestic league in Germany. He has played in 103 matches overall, and although he only started twice last season, he remains happy at the club now managed by former Manchester City player Vincent Kompany. He is now facing a deeply painful personal loss that will undoubtedly be a challenge for the family dynamic between him and his partner, Lisa.
