Danny DeVito is officially a father of the bride, and loving every second of being a grandfather, too. The Hollywood star revealed that his eldest daughter, actress Lucy DeVito, tied the knot in a private ceremony on June 28.
“It was great. It was amazing, wonderful,” DeVito revealed to People while attending the 'It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia' 20th anniversary celebration on July 1. “...We just had a good time. You make the speech and the whole thing. It was very emotional and really cool," he added.
Lucy, 42, who shares a son named Carmine with her now-husband, has kept her partner’s identity private. But DeVito confirmed the couple is thriving, “They are very happy," he told the publication.
“They already have the bundle of joy,” he added proudly. “It was a supreme highlight of my life.” Back in February, Lucy debuted her baby bump on the red carpet at the 2024 SAG Awards alongside her mother, Rhea Perlman.
Lucy and DeVito starred together on Broadway in 'I Need That,' a limited run that premiered in late 2023. Before one show, Lucy pulled her dad aside backstage to reveal a secret. “She told me in the dressing room,” DeVito recalled. “‘I got to tell you something, dad. I'm pregnant.’”
DeVito has long spoken about how becoming a grandfather has changed his life. In January, during an AARP video feature, he shared: “In two years, my daughters have had a baby each, and since these babies have been born, you gotta tamper me down in the joy department. I'm just like, you know, busting.”
“I tell my kids that, too. Don’t miss a thing. Don’t look away. Because when you look back, that kid’s gonna be hula hooping,” he said. “No matter what happens in your life, the main thing is that you’ve got family and friends. That’s all we have, basically: reliable people in our lives who we can talk to and we can open up to. I’m very fortunate. Blessing showered down on me, and I wish it for everybody.”
