President Donald Trump appears to have had a royally good time with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands. The day after spending the night at the Dutch royal family's residence, the 45th and 47th president of the United States praised his hosts in a post on Truth Social.
"The day begins in the beautiful Netherlands. The King and Queen are beautiful and spectacular people. Our breakfast meeting was great!" the president posted on Wednesday morning. "Now it’s off to the very important NATO Meetings. The USA will be very well represented!"
The night before, President Trump attended a dinner at Huis ten Bosch Palace, along with other heads of state and government leaders who are attending the 2025 NATO summit in The Hague. The American president was warmly greeted inside the palace on Tuesday by the King, Queen and their 21-year-old daughter, Princess Catharina-Amalia. Their Majesties were filmed having a friendly exchange with the president before introducing their eldest child Amalia, who is first in line to the Dutch throne.
Ahead of President Trump's arrival to the Netherlands on June 24, the AP reported that President Trump would be spending the night at Huis ten Bosch Palace, instead of a hotel in the town of Noordwijk where he was expected to stay.
“President Trump has accepted King Willem-Alexander’s invitation to spend the night at Huis ten Bosch in The Hague,” a White House official told the AP. “This is a historic event – marking the first time an American President will stay at the King’s residence.”
His Majesty was overheard telling the president on June 25, "Well I hope you slept well," to which President Trump replied, "Oh, it was great."
The King later spoke to RTL Boulevard about hosting the American president, admitting that he [Willem-Alexander] "just got up as normal." His Majesty said (via AD and translated to English), "But it was fantastic to be able to offer the American president hospitality. It was a very nice day and a very nice evening for NATO and for the Netherlands."
Willem-Alexander was also asked if he and the president stayed up late. "What happens in the palace stays in the palace," the Dutch King said, laughing, via AD. "But we had a very nice dinner with all the heads of state and government leaders of all the NATO countries who were present. At the moment, of course, the big summit in The Hague is going on and I think we have prepared everyone well and welcomed everyone in a Dutch way. I think that is good for the summit."
