They met over two decades ago, at the height of their respective careers, with Iglesias being the face of Latin pop and Kournikova being one of the most exciting international tennis talents. After making a sexy music video that immortalized their instant chemistry, the pair went public with their relationship and has maintained an air of mystery and privacy ever since.

They met in a music video
Iglesias and Kournikova met on the set of "Escape," a music video from his fifth studio album, released in 2002 and containing some of the biggest hits of his career, including "Hero," "Maybe," and more. The video stars the pair as each other's love interests, with Kournikova avoiding Iglesias for most of the song until the end, where they dramatically kiss.
Years later, Iglesias has discussed the video, specifically what his kids think about it. "Whenever they hear one of my songs they can actually recognize my voice, which is pretty cool. But when they watch that video, I think it does throw them off a little bit. 'What is Mom doing there?' you know, 'with Dad' you know? 'When was this?'" shared Iglesias in a 2021 appearance on The Jess Cagle Show.
"It's actually incredible to watch the expression on their faces. It's pretty cool," he said.
They made their red carpet debut in 2002
The following year, Iglesias and Kournikova made their red carpet debut at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, with Iglesias wearing a brown jacket, a t-shirt, and jeans, and Kournikova wearing an all-white look. Since, the pair rarely attend public outings together, although they've been spotted at sports games and other events.
In recent years, the pair have been photographed enjoying their life in Miami, where they are at times spotted going on boat rides and going on shopping trips with their children.
Their opinions on marriage
Despite their long-term relationship, Kournikova and Iglesias have always been reluctant to share their dynamic with the media. In 2008, after being together for over five years, Kournikova shared that she had no interest in getting married.
"[Marriage] isn't important to me. I'm in a happy relationship — that's all that matters," she said in an interview with Women's Health. "I believe in commitment. I believe in being open and trusting each other and respecting each other completely."

Their three children
In 2017, Kournikova and Iglesias welcomed their twins, Nicholas and Lucy. The babies were born in Miami and were a surprise for the world, with the pair sharing the news on social media with a photo.
The following year, Iglesias addressed his kids for the first time in a concert in Budapest. "I became a father 12 weeks ago and I can absolutely tell you two things: I love my babies! I love them very much," he said. "I love my girl."
In 2020, they welcomed their third child, a daughter named Mary. Iglesias announced her birth on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself kissing Kournikova's forehead as she holds on to their newborn baby in the delivery room.
