Sia is making headlines today with two major bombshells—she's not only ending her second marriage but also secretly welcomed a baby last year.
Multiple outlets confirmed the news after the 49-year-old singer filed for divorce from Dan Bernad on March 19, citing irreconcilable differences. Their date of separation was just one day prior, on March 18.
Sia and Bernard wed in a private ceremony at Dolce & Gabbana’s Villa Olivetta in Portofino, Italy, in May 2023, with just six guests in attendance. People obtained court documents revealing they had a daughter, Somersault Wonder Bernad, born on March 27, 2024. The divorce comes just days before her first birthday.
According to the outlet, the "Chandelier" singer is requesting legal and physical custody of Somersault, though she is open to granting Bernad visitation rights. She’s also asking the court not to award him spousal support.
Sia's private life
Somersault is Sia's third child. The Grammy-nominated singer adopted a teenage boy from the 2016 HBO documentary Foster, which explores the foster care system, and his "cousin Che" from his group home in 2019. She has kept their lives private, only opening up a few times in the past about motherhood.
She opened up about the highs and lows of being an adoptive parent telling Lisa Wilkinson on The Project in 2021, "It's hard. It's been both painful and rewarding, and all I can say really is that I just have to just keep reminding them that I'll be here, I'm never going anywhere, and I love them." "I think it's just scary to have someone say 'I'll love you forever' when you've been in 28 different homes your entire life," she continued.
It's not the first time Sia has gone through a divorce. She was previously married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang from 2014 to 2016. Sia opened up in the past about how they were planning on having kids and her journey with infertility.
In a 2020 interview with InStyle, she explained she had undergone in-vitro fertilization treatments with Lang. "Eventually, we did get embryos, but then we also got a divorce, so I wasn't able to use them,” Sia told the publication.
