Ángela Aguilar and her team are shutting down the latest social media-fueled controversy with a firm denial. After online speculation suggested that Aguilar's song "Qué Agonía" bore striking similarities to Adele's 2011 global hit "Rolling in the Deep"—even sparking unfounded rumors of a lawsuit—the Aguilar family has spoken out.

In a statement shared, the Aguilars clarified that the allegations are entirely baseless: "Fake news alert! Have you heard that Ángela Aguilar is being sued by Adele? What a way to make up stories! It seems that some have taken 'sing like there's no tomorrow' too seriously and decided to create drama where there is none. Please!"

The TikTok-Fueled Controversy

As with many viral rumors, this one started on TikTok. A video comparing Aguilar's "Qué Agonía," a collaboration with Yuridia," to Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" began circulating, highlighting apparent similarities in the choruses. This led to a flurry of accusations from fans and self-proclaimed music analysts, with some even claiming that Adele had pursued legal action against Aguilar.

Before long, social media was ablaze with speculation that a California court had ruled in Adele's favor in a copyright infringement case against Aguilar. However, the truth tells a different story. Aguilar's representatives quickly reached out to HOLA! to debunk the claims, stating that the lawsuit rumors are entirely false.

Music Genres vs. Melody Similarities

As HOLA! previously reported, these two songs belong to entirely different musical worlds. "Qué Agonía" is deeply rooted in regional Mexican music, with its passionate, heart-wrenching delivery, while "Rolling in the Deep" is a defining pop-soul anthem of the 2010s. Yet, despite the genre differences, fans have pointed out similarities in melody and song structure, elements that sometimes transcend musical categories.

While artists occasionally face legitimate copyright disputes over melody or chord progression similarities, Aguilar's team maintains that this is nothing more than social media gossip blown out of proportion. As the dust settles, it's clear that no lawsuit exists, and both Aguilar and Adele continue to thrive in their respective musical lanes.

For now, the Aguilar family has put the rumors to rest. But as the internet has proven time and time again, viral stories, whether true or false, have a way of taking on a life of their own.

All About Ángela Aguilar's “Qué Agonía”

"Qué Agonía" is part of Yuridia's regional Mexican music album, "Pa' Luego Es Tarde," which features 14 songs. During Yuridia's press tour, the singer told local Mexican media that she loved the song as soon as Aguilar sent it to her team.

"It's a song written by her. As soon as she sent it to us and I listened to it, I loved it. Edén made some fantastic arrangements, and before finishing it, we thought it would sound incredible as a duet—and it did. I know my fans are going to love it," said Yuridia.

In 2023, Ángela Aguilar climbed to the top of the popularity charts thanks to "Qué Agonía." According to Billboard, she claimed the number-one spot on the chart's "México Songs."

After securing the top position, the track secured over 100 million views on its official music video and 74 million streams on Spotify.
