What will happen to Joan Sebastian's inheritance after his grandson’s difficult situation?

Tension has risen between Maribel Guardia and her ex-daughter-in-law, Imelda Tuñón, over the care of José Julián, Maribel's grandson. With Maribel revealing José Julián will stay with her for now, there has been speculation about how his inheritance might be affected after the death of his father, Julián Figueroa, with concerns that Joan Sebastian's intestate succession process could be impacted. However, Sebastian's lawyer has now stepped in to clarify the situation.

After Joan Sebastian's death, his son Julián was one of his heirs

In an interview with the TV program Ventaneando, Cipriano Sotelo, Sebastian’s lawyer, gave an update on the inheritance process and cleared up any confusion caused by the ongoing conflict between Maribel and Imelda. He confirmed that this situation won’t affect the process of settling Joan's inheritance, especially now that Marco Chacón, Guardia’s husband, is José Julián’s legal representative.

"Marco Chacón is a man we have known for many years, very professional and honest. His role cannot be questioned just because of the situation with Maribel or Imelda. The child is protected, and a trust will be established at the end of the legal process, where the child will receive his inheritance through his legal representative," said Sotelo.

Sotelo also explained that the inheritance process is still not finalized. "The judge is aware of the inventories and appraisals. If we made an inventory of assets almost 10 years ago, those assets are still Joan Sebastian's today. If someone claims a right to them, they must prove it, and they must also be up to date with their taxes or pay any outstanding fees to the city council. The judge wants to verify that the properties still belong to Joan Sebastian and that all inventories and appraisals are current," he said.

When will it be resolved?

Meanwhile, the executor has been in contact with the heirs to inform them about the list of assets. "The executor tells them, ‘Here is the list of assets. Let me know if you’re interested in any,’" Sotelo explained. "Some are considering it, but they don’t want to take any risks. The properties have sentimental value, especially for the family, but not necessarily for their financial worth." He added that many of the properties are located in Guerrero, a region that isn’t as desirable right now due to the current security situation in the country.

Finally, Sotelo said that if all the heirs agree, the intestate process could be completed this year. "If they want to, and everyone agrees, we could wrap it up by the end of this quarter," he concluded.
