Salma Hayek loves food. That's a fact that she makes clear whenever she can. Over the past months, Hayek has been discussing the series "Like Water for Chocolate."
The Mexican production airing on Max is based on the beloved Laura Esquivel novel of the same name, and has a heavy focus on food, which Hayek reveals was one of the reasons why she decided to adapt the story.
In various videos shared over social media, Hayek has discussed all manner of topics, from the series' title and its meaning to some of her favorite dishes.
When asked about her favorite Mexican dish, Hayek explained that she couldn't choose only one. Still, she tried her best.
"For example: there's nothing like a pozole for a hangover," she said in Spanish. "Those pozoles tasted incredible. There was something magical about them. They remind me of the weddings of my youth that lasted until five or six AM in Mexico. They brought out the pozole because we'd been dancing all night."
"So many memories and emotions," she said.
The family recipe she now makes for her daughter
Hayek also shared a family recipe that's been passed down from her grandmother and that she now prepares for her daughter, Valentina Paloma. "My grandmother made me something that no one else did: dobladitas," she said, referring to a tortilla that's served with sauce and cheese.
"My mouth is watering right now. It was a tortilla with beans but they tasted different because she folded them with so much love. No one ever made me dobladitas like my grandmother," she said.
"I've prepared them for my daughter," she said, referencing Valentina, whom she shares with her husband Francois-Henri Pinault. "You can remember your loved ones and your youth through food," she added thoughtfully.
