This week, New York hosted the grand United Nations General Assembly, an event that brings together numerous world leaders, including King Felipe of Spain. However, just hours before the official events kicked off in the Big Apple, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands flew to Washington for a series of preliminary meetings related to her role as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.
She was joined by her daughter, Amalia, who was eager to soak up the experience and begin taking on more responsibilities as heir to the throne. Their bond is so strong that it even shows in their wardrobe, as once again, their outfits were in perfect harmony.
Following in her mother’s footsteps:
Amalia has shown on numerous occasions that she loves fashion just as much as her mother does, and like her, she's not afraid to experiment with bold designs, color combinations, or eye-catching headpieces.
In fact, it's not unusual for her to borrow clothing or accessories from Máxima’s closet. She's also learned to use fashion as a tool for messaging, demonstrating that style can be a powerful means of communication. So it’s no surprise that for her debut at a political event of this scale, she chose to follow Máxima’s lead.
Their fashion moment:
The mother and daughter duo went for a timeless option favored by royals and first ladies alike, wearing a pantsuit and showcasing an elegant and sophisticated look.
Kate Middleton and Queen Letizia are also fans and have variations of the same ensemble. Although Queen Máxima often opts for midi skirts or dresses, she owns several suit sets and selected one perfectly suited to the occasion.
Máxima wore a two-piece by Max Mara in a turquoise wool-silk blend, adding her signature pop of color. The set included structured shoulders, lapels, and front pockets, paired with high-waisted trousers with a flared hem for a flattering “long-leg” effect.
She paired the suit with a simple round-neck white tee and nude classic pumps by Gianvito Rossi, specifically the ‘Gianvito 105’ model, which she owns in several colors. Her accessories included a coordinating clutch and a colorful stone necklace by Seaman Schepps.
Amalia also opted for a pantsuit, choosing a more understated black version. But she added bold touches, such as trendy red patent leather pumps, another new pair from Gianvito Rossi, which stole the spotlight.
She accessorized with golden jewelry pieces and both wore their hair down and styled naturally, keeping their makeup soft and subtle, including rosy blush and lip colors, adding bold mascara.
Their time in NYC:
After their time in Washington, the royal pair arrived in New York. In the city of skyscrapers, their close bond was once again on display. This time, they embraced trendy color palettes.
Queen Máxima wore one of her signature olive-green ensembles, while Princess Amalia re-wore a salmon pink wide-leg suit with a double-breasted blazer by Max Mara.
She first debuted the outfit in Athens on September 17, 2024, and brought it back for her first solo engagement on February 22, 2025.
