Marvel is reportedly assembling on grounds of the Crown Estate. The Sun reported on June 22 that scenes for Avengers: Doomsday will be shot over the summer in Windsor Great Park. King Charles is said to have been made aware of, but is set to be at Balmoral in Scotland during filming.
The Windsor Estate, which includes Windsor Great Park, is part of The Crown Estate. Per its website, the Crown Estate is owned by the monarch “in right of the Crown," meaning that "while the King owns the estate during his reign, it is not his private property and he does not manage or make decisions about its assets."
In 2022, King Charles became the Ranger of Windsor Great Park, a role previously held by his late father, Prince Philip. At the time, Paul Sedgwick, the Crown Estate’s managing director, rural and deputy ranger of Windsor Great Park, said: “We are honoured to have His Majesty as Ranger of Windsor Great Park, continuing a long tradition of the Sovereign and members of the Royal Family holding this role. Windsor has a wonderful heritage with many precious natural habitats. His Majesty’s passion and commitment to the natural world will be invaluable as we seek to become a centre of excellence for environmental best practice, preserving and enhancing the Great Park for generations to come.”
The Windsor Great Park website notes that the ranger's primary responsibility is "to offer oversight and guidance to the Deputy Ranger and his team in the day-to-day stewardship of one of the country’s oldest landed Estates."
The Sun reported that Marvel Studios "paid a fortune in location fees to erect its sets next to Windsor Castle in Berkshire — with the money going towards maintaining the park."
A source told the outlet, “Several million pounds is chicken feed to Marvel when their movies make billions."
“But the money will go to the upkeep of Windsor Great Park so the King of course has a keen interest," the source added. “Some of the profits of Crown Estates make their way to the Royal Family so it’s a win-win for everyone."
Both part 1 and 2 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Snow White and The Huntsman, Bridget Jones’s Baby and World War Z are among productions that have filmed in the park. "With approximately 6,400 hectares (15,800 acres) of varied scenic locations, and a film-friendly approach, Windsor Great Park and Forest has become a popular location for commercial filming and photo shoots," according to the park's website.
Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is slated to be released on Dec. 18, 2026. Marvel Studios announced back in March that production on the film had begun.
Disney Legend Robert Downey Jr., who previously played Iron Man/Tony Stark, is returning to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie's star-studded cast also features Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum and Pedro Pascal.
