Referred as the Farmdog or DSF for short, the breed is originally from parts of Europe, now recognized as Denmark, southern Sweden, and other European countries, according to the Danish-Swedish Farmdog Club of America.

Danish-Swedish Farmdogs can now participate in the popular Westminster Kennel Club dog show in New York, as well as the National Dog Show and AKC National Championship.

The newly recognized breed is described as "the Little Big Dog" by the American Kennel Club. "The Danish-Swedish Farmdog is a companion dog that loves to work and enjoys a challenge. They are a small, compact and slightly rectangular dog, known to mature late," the organization shared on their website.

"They are eligible to compete in Agility, Barn Hunt, Flyball, Herding, Lure Coursing, Nosework, Obedience and Rally, Tracking and AKC FSS Open Shows," the AKC added.

The Danish-Swedish Farmdog is also described as being "very low maintenance, the occasional brushing and bath are all that is needed to keep them clean and looking their best." When it comes to their health, these energetic pups have "proven to be a healthy breed, free of commonly reoccurring health issues, genetic or otherwise."

The Farmdog is the 202nd breed to be included in the lineup of recognized breeds, and “a wonderful addition to a family that is able to provide it with the exercise and mental stimulation that it needs,” said AKC's Gina DiNardo.

“They’re interesting, fun little dogs,” said Carey Segebart, one of the people who worked to get Danish-Swedish Farmdogs recognized by the AKC. “They’re essentially up for anything. They succeed at most everything.”
