While many celebrities are rocking oversized trousers, breezy skirts, and more summer essentials, one actress is reviving a long-dismissed wardrobe classic, khakis. On July 9, Katie Holmes was spotted in New York City channeling her signature effortless streetwear but with a twist.
The actress turned heads by styling a babydoll dress as a shirt, layered casually over khaki cargo pants made from a quick-drying synthetic blend. She was photographed walking solo through the NYC streets.
She topped her look with a white tank layered underneath the sheer-laced babydoll dress, a throwback move she has embraced since the '90s. Katie also wore black ballet flats, minimal jewelry, black sunglasses, and a soft makeup look.
Cargo pants are not a new territory for the star. Recently, she’s leaned into baggier silhouettes and breathable fabrics, signaling a consistent shift away from traditional summer basics. And somehow, it always looks intentional.
Katie recently talked about her approach to fashion during an interview with InStyle. She credits her stylist for some of her outfit ideas. "My stylist Brie Welch is really good, so I really give her all of the props," she added. "I follow what she wears and I'm inspired by her."
"I enjoy [fashion]. I mean, I enjoy the craftsmanship. I enjoy putting things together. And I work with [stylist] Brie Welch, and she's very detail-oriented, which inspires me. I think it is very creative. I love vintage shopping. I love the art of design," she told Glamour about her love for fashion.
One of Katie's biggest fans is without a doubt her daughter Suri, who has been seen rocking some of the star's looks, incorporating items from her wardrobe into her outfits. Most recently, Suri was seen in NYC dressed in a cropped white tank, paisley shorts, blue crew socks, and a standout pair of PONY M-100 Low Vintage sneakers, creating a casual yet eye-catching look.
