Melania Trump wore a head-turning look at the International Women of Courage Awards, where she co-hosted the event alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The First Lady, who is known for her eye-catching fashion moments, looked stunning in a leopard-print calfskin coat from Venezuelan-born and Palm Beach-based designer Milly Park.

The striking coat, which was part of Park's fall collection, retails for between $11,000 and $12,000 and was an eye-catching choice for the prestigious event. However, what made the moment even more special was the fact that the designer was not aware that Melania was going to wear her design until she saw photos of the event.

The American designer was caught off guard when she learned her design had been chosen for such a high-profile occasion. “I didn’t know. I’ve been so busy,” Park said. “I’m beyond honored and shocked that the First Lady wore my piece today… this is something to be celebrated about.”

The stunning leopard-print coat, known as the Cavallino, was initially featured on Park’s runway just last month. Park, who runs a Palm Beach-based company, had sent the coat as a gift to Melania in December, along with two other special pieces, hoping they might catch the First Lady’s eye.

The leopard-print coat made a bold statement at the indoor event, complementing Melania’s confident presence. The coat featured a belted waist and sleek design and was paired with pointed-toe heels.

“I sent three special pieces to Melania,” Park said. The designer talked to WWD and said she might have received a note of acknowledgment. “I’m not sure. I could have [received one]. My husband and I have been traveling so much. And I’ve been so focused on launching my new collection, which just happened at the Palm Beach [International] Boat Show on March 20. I could possibly have something in the mail but I haven’t checked it.”

It's unclear if Melania will be wearing more designs from Park, who was raised in Canada before migrating to the U.S. about a decade ago. The brand also offers ready-to-wear, sportswear, swimwear, bridal, and custom for women.
