Powell and Jordan are rumored to play detectives Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs, following in the footsteps of Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, roles that made both actors household names decades ago.

If you aren't familiar with the original series, the detectives go undercover in South Florida. It was a mix of crime drama with stylish suits, neon colors, good music, and cinematic visuals. The detectives also faced the emotional toll of living a double life, and there were moments when things got dark.

According to a report by Nexus Point News, the film would be directed by Joseph Kosinski, the man behind Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming Formula 1 movie with Brad Pitt. Kosinski already worked with Powell on Top Gun, only adding more fuel to the rumors.

Kosinski is the perfect person to revive the series. As you can see from his resume, he has a knack for blending style, adrenaline, and emotion.

The script is being written by Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy and is said to bring the story back to its original 1980s setting. According to Variety,  it “explores the glamour and corruption" in Miami and is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.”

While casting details haven’t been finalized, Powell and Jordan are two of the most charming and hottest men in Hollywood right now. If they came together, there's no doubt they would bring the right energy.

Jordan, meanwhile, starred in Sinners and has 5 upcoming films, according to IMDb. Creed IV, which is in pre-production, along with I am Legend 2 and Rainbow Six. He's currently filming The Thomas Crown Affair.

Though Universal has yet to confirm production details, it's said to release in theaters on August 6, 2027.

It'll be the second reboot. Back in 2006, there was a film adaptation starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. It was written, directed, and produced by Michael Mann, who was the executive producer of the original series.
