Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy Guthrie, has disappeared. According to new reports, police in Arizona are treating her disappearance as a crime scene, with Nancy last seen on January 31st.
Nancy is 84 years old and went missing from her home in Arizona. “We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime, and we’re asking the community’s help,” said Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos in a press conference.
He made it clear that Nancy did not leave on her own. He also clarified that while she's 84, she's "sharp as a tack," and wouldn't have wandered off on her own due to her physical limitations.
She was reported missing by her family members this past Sunday, after she didn't show up in church. She was last seen this past Saturday, in her home, where she lives alone.
In the case of Savannah, she skipped the taping of the Today Show on Monday, with her co-hosts sharing a statement written by her and her family.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
Savannah and Nancy share a close relationship, with Savannah's father dying when she was 16 years old, and her mother stepping up to care for her family full-time. "[Nancy] set aside her own grief in many ways just to be there and make sure that we could all move forward together," said Savannah in a 2023 Mother's Day episode of the "Today Show."
Savannah's upcoming work engagements
Savannah has dropped out of her upcoming duties at work, including her coverage of the Winter Olympics, which was scheduled to begin this Friday, where she was going to be rejoined with her co-host, Hoda Kobt.
“There is no way Savannah will be there,” said an NBC News source to Page Six. She'd previously announced her involvement with the Winter Olympics in September of last year, sharing her excitement in a press release.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to host the Opening Ceremony alongside the incomparable Terry Gannon and snowboarding legend Shaun White,” she said. “It’s such an honor to celebrate the world’s best athletes and introduce the magic and wonder of the Winter Games and northern Italy to viewers at home.”
