A close friend of Victoria Beckham has defended her after Brooklyn Beckham claimed his mother behaved “inappropriately” during a dance at his wedding to Nicola Peltz Beckham. The fallout centers on Brooklyn, claiming that his mother, “hijacked” what was meant to be his first dance with his bride, during their 2022 Florida wedding.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, a friend of the former Spice Girl said, “Why shouldn’t Victoria be tactile with her son? She is tactile with all her children, and she has always been. She has nothing to apologize for, yet she has been vilified for years now, and that is disgusting. The Beckhams are a tactile family.”
The source continued, “David still kisses the boys when they come home. They have always been close and cuddly, and Brooklyn has been tactile, too. It was authentic. David and Victoria are young, soppy parents, and yet last week, she was shamed for it. It is deeply unfair and upsetting. There was nothing inappropriate about the dance.”
Despite the strength of Brooklyn’s recent remarks, sources close to David, and Victoria have insisted the couple are not angry with their eldest son and is instead heartbroken by the situation. A source said there is “absolutely no anger”, adding, “There is desperate sadness and worry and lots of confusion. All David and Victoria want is to have a relationship with their son. Whatever happens, they will always be here for him, and they desperately want him to know that.”
Brooklyn made the allegations in a strongly worded public statement earlier this month, revisiting events from his wedding day. He said, “In front of our 500 wedding guests, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife, but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.”
He added, “She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”
However, Brooklyn’s account has been questioned by others involved in the wedding. Celebrity planner Preston Bailey, who worked with Brooklyn and Nicola for 11 months, said he “didn’t see any tension” during the preparations.
Speaking to the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column, he said, “It surprises me that he is taking this stand against his parents. That’s not the Brooklyn I met. He was a nice, gentle guy.” Bailey also dismissed claims that Nicola, 30, was controlling during the process, saying, “I don’t remember her being bossy. I remember a lot of affection between them. She wasn’t going to do anything without his approval.”
In his statement, Brooklyn insisted he does “not want to reconcile” with his family, writing, “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
