Paris Hilton cares about politics. The TV personality and Millennial icon has become a prominent political advocate in recent years, recently joining Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as they urged Congress to pass the DEFIANCE Act, which would provide a legal path for victims of AI deepfakes. In a recent interview, Hilton shared her one condition for running for President.
Hilton was a guest at "Today with Jenna & Sheinelle," where she was asked about her desire to get more involved with politics and perhaps run for public office. "Every time I go out there, they all say that to me," she said. "They say, ‘You get more done than our government.’"
"Wait, that’s not a ‘no,’" said Hager.
"Only if I can paint the White House pink," said Hilton.
Hilton has been incredibly busy over the past weeks, promoting her new film and discussing her involvement with the DEFIANCE Act. "It’s so scary with the world of AI because the laws have not caught up with it, and there’s no regulations and people are allowed to make deepfake AI explicit photos and videos of children, women, people all around the world," she said on the show.
"And this Defiance Act would make it so that victims can go into court and sue because there’s no law to regulate it now."
Hilton is now a mother of two, something that she credits as making her feel more "protective than ever." "I want my children to be in a world that is safe, so I’m going to do everything in my power to help make that happen," she said.
This month, she discussed her work on social media and why it was important to advocate for the DEFIANCE Act. "I know firsthand what it’s like to have your privacy violated and your image exploited. That experience is why I’m in DC fighting for accountability and justice," she wrote on Instagram. "I’m committed to making sure women and girls have real protections — and that those responsible are held accountable.
Hilton's hard work to protect children and teens
In 2024, Hilton played a key role in passing a bill that protects minors from abuse in centers like rehab and other residential facilities.
Hilton shared the milestone on social media. "Today is a day I will never forget. After years of sharing my story and advocating on Capitol Hill, the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act has officially passed the U.S Congress. This moment is proof that our voices matter, that speaking out can spark change, and that no child should ever endure the horrors of abuse in silence. I did this for the younger version of myself and the youth who were senselessly taken from us by the Troubled Teen Industry."
