Chris Hemsworth is opening up about his marriage. The Australian actor has one of the most stable partnerships in Hollywood, getting married to Elsa Pataky 15 years ago. The pair share three kids and are known for their adventurous lifestyle in their home in Australia.
Still, like every couple, Hemsworth and Pataky have faced challenging times. In an appearance on Jay Shetty's podcast "On Purpose," Hemsworth shared some of the insights that he's learned after being involved in a partnership for a long period of time.
"I think the complicated times have been when it's been all work, all kids, and all of a sudden the 'us' in the relationship is sort of non-existent," he said.
Hemsworth noted that sometimes it's challenging to manage all of their tasks, with both having such busy schedules. "You're just kind of managing a household or the work-family schedule. Elsa will be off at work, and I'll be off at work, and then it's chaos with kid time, and so sort of removing ourselves from all of that and just having time for the two of us and making space for each other rather than the rest of the world that can be so all-consuming."
Shetty mentioned that it must be hard to balance all of these elements when both members of the couple are so busy, but Hemsworth made it clear that the two face the same challenges that most people do. "We have no excuse as far as how much time we can make for each other due to the support we can get due to our situation," he said.
How Hemsworth and Pataky feel their best
Hemsworth also shared some of the things that make them feel their best as a couple, mentioning humor and adventure as two important elements for keeping their relationship feeling strong and stable. "When there's humor involved, when there's adventure, when there's curiosity, when there's openness to kind of make a fool of yourself and self-deprecation and all that," he said.
He shared that while attraction is important, the key to their success lies in their friendship and their desire to be each other's partners. "The moment you run out of things to talk about, you lack that curiosity and interest in one another; that's when it's concerning," he said.
Hemsworth and Pataky got married fast. The two met in 2010, getting married shortly after. Over the years, they've welcomed their children, India, Sasha, and Tristan.
