Cher and her boyfriend, Alexander Edwards, sparked engagement rumors back in 2022, but this week, rumors started to swirl that a wedding was on the horizon. The singer is turning 80 on May 20, and the story was that she was planning to walk down the aisle for the special milestone.
A source close to Cher allegedly told The Mirror that she had her "heart set on walking down the aisle with him around the time of her landmark birthday."
They added that she saw it as "the perfect time" for her and the 39-year-old to "seal the deal." "Cher doesn't give a hoot about their age difference, and they're both ready to commit to each other," they continued.
While the 79-year-old singer has made it very clear herself that she doesn't care about their age gap, her spokesperson shut down the rumors, telling Gossip List there are "absolutely no plans for a wedding in her future."
They instead pointed to Cher's upcoming Christmas single and a Saturday Night Live performance on December 20.
Cher has been married twice, to Sonny Bono and Greg Allman.

Cher and her boo have sparked engagement rumors in the past, and for good reason, so the wedding speculation didn't come from nowhere. Back in December 2022, she shared a photo of a huge diamond ring that certainly looked like an engagement ring. She gushed about the gift on Twitter, writing “THERE R NO WORDS, ALEXANDER, A.E.”
The "I Got You Babe" singer shared the same photo again an hour later, with the caption, “I posted this cause his nails are so cool.” Many people congratulated her, and she even said thank you to one fan. But it could have been some kind of promise ring.
Still going strong
With an estimated net worth of $360 million, the rumors led to discourse that AE was just using her for her money, but while her spokesperson said there are no plans for a wedding in the future, Cher has made it clear they are very happy.
In November, she talked to Gayle King on CBS Mornings about their 40-year age gap and how it doesn't faze him. “He just says, ‘You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger.'" She went on to gush about the rapper, “I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented - one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”
The couple first met at Paris Fashion Week in 2022, and despite the online chatter about their relationship, Cher is staying quiet about the haters. “They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”
And she's always stood by her man. Back in 2022, she told Kelly Clarkson, “On paper, it’s ridiculous. But in real life, we get along great. He’s fabulous, and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve.”
