Emma Heming Willis is settling an age-old debate. The author and wife of Bruce Willis is weighing in on "Die Hard" and whether or not the film is a Christmas movie.
Heming Willis was recently a guest at the End Well 2025 conference in Los Angeles, where she shared some of her plans for the holiday season alongside her daughters, Mabel and Evelyn. “I think it's important to put Die Hard on because it's a Christmas movie,” said Heming Willis to PEOPLE. “Bruce loved Christmas, and we love celebrating it with him,” she continued. "There is still joy. It just looks different."
"Die Hard" is one of Willis' most famous movies. Released in 1988, the story follows Willis as John McClane, a police detective who becomes entangled in a terrorist attack while visiting his estranged wife during a Christmas Eve party. The movie is one of Hollywood's biggest hits, launching Willis as an action hero and Alan Rickman as a memorable villain. It resulted in many sequels, including "Die Hard 2," "Die Hard with a Vengeance," "Live Free or Die Hard," and more.
While heavy on the action, "Die Hard" packs plenty of holiday vibes into its runtime and has slowly become one of those classics that some households like to put on during the holidays.
Willis himself has weighed in on the Christmas debate
"Die Hard's" standing as a holiday movie has been debated for decades, with Willis himself weighing in on the issue. “Die Hard is not a Christmas movie,” he said onstage at The Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis. “It’s a goddamn Bruce Willis movie!”
Bruce Willis announced his retirement in 2022, with his family sharing the news. Over the past years, Heming Willis has become a spokesperson for Frontotemporal dementia, the disease affecting Willis, appearing on chats and sharing information on her social media. She also published a book discussing her experience as a caretaker, a role that many don't discuss, titled "The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path."
Earlier this month, Heming Willis discussed Willis' health. "It's such a loaded question. It’s hard to answer," she said on "The Today Show." "But honestly, today, great. He is surrounded by love and care, and he is doing really well with an unkind disease." She said that while the communication between herself and Willis has changed, "our connection is very much intact."
