Lauren Sánchez Bezos and Jeff Bezos have lined up their next big project. The couple was announced as the 2026 Met Gala's sponsors, providing funding for fashion's biggest party and cementing their interest in becoming fashion connoisseurs.
The couple will be some of the evening's most special guests and will likely have a say in who gets invited. Other sponsors of the 2026 Met Gala include the fashion house Saint Laurent and Condé Nast, the media company that owns Vogue and many other publications.
In the past, Met Gala events have tended to be funded by fashion houses, but corporate enterprises have also been involved. Last year, the sponsor was Louis Vuitton, but in 2024, it was TikTok. In 2022, it was Instagram.
The Sanchez-Bezos have maintained a friendship with Anna Wintour over the years, with the two inviting her to their Venice wedding this past summer. They were also invited to this year's Met Gala, which they opted out of in order to prepare for their nuptials. Lauren was featured on Vogue's digital cover, appearing in a multiple-page story that discussed the wedding and her gown.
“Lauren loves costumes,” said Wintour of Sanchez-Bezos, per The New York Times. "She loves fashion.”
This year's Met Gala theme
This year's Met Gala theme will be "Costume Art." The Met will also host a Spring 2026 exhibition, inaugurating the new and permanent Condé M. Nast Galleries. “It will be transformative for our department, but I also think it’s going to be transformative to fashion more generally—the fact that an art museum like The Met is actually giving a central location to fashion," said Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge.
When describing the Met Gala's "Costume Art" theme, he said that it focused on “the indivisible connection between our bodies and the clothes we wear."
To celebrate the occasion, the museum exhibit will pair paintings, sculptures, and other forms of art with the historical and contemporary garments from the Costume Institute, representing the 5,000 years of art that have been featured in The Met.
The Sanchez-Bezos have a history with the Met Gala. In 2012, Jeff was one of the event's co-chairs, attending it with his then-wife MacKenzie Scott. In 2019, he attended the event solo, and in 2024, he and Lauren made their Met Gala debut as a couple.
