The Miss Universe 2025 race just took an unexpected and worrying turn. While most contestants in Phuket are busy perfecting their walk, adjusting their sashes, and manifesting a sparkly future crown, Hungary’s representative, Kincső Dezsényi, found herself dealing with an emergency hospital stay.

Nothing halts pageant buzz quite like news from a hospital bed, and Hungary’s organization stepped in quickly to clear the air. In a public statement, paired with photos showing Kincső resting under medical care, they explained that she had suffered a severe case of food poisoning. “We regret to inform everyone that Kincső Dezsényi, Miss Universe Hungary 2025, has suffered a severe case of food poisoning during the international competition and has required hospital treatment," her team informed. It wasn’t the kind of international experience anyone hopes for, especially not during one of the biggest competitions in the world.

According to the statement, the situation was serious enough to require immediate hospitalization. The tone was equal parts factual and reassuring, confirming that despite missing several scheduled events, Kincső was finally on the mend. The organization emphasized that her health remained its top priority and expressed gratitude for the swift, high-quality care provided in Thailand. Pageant fans could practically hear a collective sigh of relief across social media.

The question on everyone’s mind was whether this sudden setback would force her to sit out the grand finale next week. For now, the answer looks encouraging. The Hungarian team shared their optimism that she’ll recover in time to hit the Impact Arena stage once again, hopefully shining just as brightly as she did the moment she arrived in Phuket.

She didn’t sugarcoat the fact that she had been feeling awful.

Kincső herself later broke her silence with a heartfelt message. She didn’t sugarcoat the fact that she had been feeling awful, admitting she’d been unwell since the previous day and too sick to participate in activities. She wrote about taking this time to rest, recharge, and return stronger, determined to keep enjoying the journey she worked so hard to earn.

“Hello everyone! I’ve been feeling unwell since yesterday and, unfortunately, I got sick, so I couldn’t join the activities yesterday and today. I’m taking some time to rest and recover so I can come back stronger and continue this incredible journey with full energy again!”, she wrote.

Kincső’s goal remains unchanged as she still wants to step onto that international stage next week and give everything she’s got. Whether she ultimately takes home the crown currently held by Victoria Kjær Theilvig, the outpouring of support shows she has already won over many hearts.

The final competition of the Miss Universe pageant is scheduled to take place on November 21 at 8 a.m. Thailand time. In the United States, the event will be broadcast on Telemundo and Peacock on November 20 due to the time difference. The broadcast will be hosted by Carlos Adyan, Jessica Carrillo, Jacqueline Bracamontes, and Danilo Carrera, as reported by NBCUniversal. Coverage will begin at 7 p.m. ET.
