Mexico’s representative, Fátima Bosch, found herself in an uncomfortable situation after Nawat Itsaragrisil, the director of the Miss Universe organization in Thailand, reportedly asked security to remove her from an event.

Fátima’s Miss Universe journey took an unexpected turn after an incident involving Nawat. The tense episode happened during a pre-event meeting before the sash ceremony, where all contestants met with the Thai director. During the gathering, Nawat publicly accused the Mexican contestant of disobedience.

In a bold move, Fátima, who recently appeared on the cover of ¡HOLA!, stood up to defend herself after the official allegedly called her “stupid.”

The Confrontation

The heated exchange, which was caught on video, began when Nawat spoke about contestants’ duties, including sharing their Miss Universe experience on social media. According to Nawat, Fátima refused to record a video clip meant to gauge public engagement, an activity not officially part of the competition.

Fátima later explained that she was following instructions from the Miss Universe Mexico organization, which advised her not to take part in that particular vote since it wasn’t an official event requirement. The situation escalated when she stood up to explain her position, prompting Nawat to call security to remove her. Several contestants, showing solidarity, accompanied Miss Mexico as she exited.

Speaking Out

Alongside Miss Iraq, Fátima addressed the media afterward to denounce what she described as mistreatment. Holding back tears, she said, “I want to say something to all of you. You know your country has all my respect. I truly love Thailand, I respect everyone, and I think you’re wonderful people. But what your director just did was not respectful.”

Emotionally shaken but determined, Fátima added that the director’s comments were inappropriate: “He called me stupid because he has issues with the organization. I think it’s unfair. I’m here doing everything right, I don’t bother anyone, I just try to be kind.”

She went on, “He simply attacked me and told me to shut up, saying many things. I think the world needs to see this because we are empowered women, and this platform is for our voices — no one can silence us. No one will do that to me. I have no problem with anyone here. You all have my respect, and I love your country, but the way he treated me without reason — just because he has problems — that’s not right.”

Support from Mexico and Beyond

Following the incident, ¡HOLA! Américas spoke with George Figueroa, National Director of Miss Universe Mexico, who expressed his full support: “It’s been a powerful moment, but Fátima, with her superwoman personality, has turned this around and made global impact,” he said.

In a show of resilience, Fátima used the cameras to deliver an empowering message: “I hope that everyone watching — every woman — remembers that no matter how big your dream is or if you wear a crown, if something takes away your dignity, you must walk away. Thank you,” she said, reflecting on the lesson learned from the experience.

With her head held high, the Mexican beauty queen left the venue to applause from journalists and witnesses. Many contestants expressed their support, including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjaer Theivig, who stated, “This is about women’s rights. I’m so sorry. We need to do more. Everyone deserves respect. This is not how things should be handled — tearing down another woman is beyond disrespectful.”

Shortly after, the Miss Universe Organization released an official statement reaffirming its commitment to respect and safety: “Together, we are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of respect, safety, and integrity for all participants, staff, and stakeholders,” the statement read on the contest’s official social media accounts.
