George Clooney's son's reaction when the actor showed him his childhood photos

Clooney has also been candid about raising his family far from the glitz of Los Angeles

At 64, George Clooney is still every bit the leading man, but this time, his co-star is his own son. Speaking to PEOPLE at the "Jay Kelly" premiere at AFI Fest 2025 in Los Angeles, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that his 8-year-old son, Alexander, is basically his clone.

“My son looks exactly like I looked when I was his age,” Clooney said with a laugh. “It’s sort of cut and paste in a way. I show him pictures of me when I was 8 and he thinks they’re pictures of him.” Clooney admitted it’s “pretty fun” to watch his son grow into a little version of himself, and even sweeter, to be fully present for it.

The Coolest Kind of Copy-and-Paste

For fans who grew up watching Clooney on "ER" or swooned over him in "Ocean’s Eleven," the idea of a pint-sized George running around feels almost surreal. But Clooney says that fatherhood has given him a new kind of joy, one that doesn’t involve red carpets or film sets.

“I’m 64, so you look back at everything, because the looking forward is harder,” he said honestly. “But I’m in a pretty comfortable place in life. I like what I do for a living, I have great friends, I spend time with people that I love, and I’ve been lucky enough late in life to spend time with my family.”

Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, 47, became parents to twins Alexander and Ella in 2017, when George was 56. And while it might’ve been a late start for the Hollywood icon, he makes it clear that this chapter has been the most fulfilling yet.

Parenthood Changed Everything

Clooney confessed that life with twins came with a new set of “rules.” Before kids, the Clooneys were known for their adventurous spirit, Amal taking on high-risk legal cases in Beirut, George venturing into war-torn regions like Darfur and the Nuba Mountains.

“Well, you have to be careful, right? You can’t just go swinging as you used to,” he said. “We had to make decisions not to do that once we had kids. You had to change what the rules were.”

Life in France

Clooney has also been candid about raising his family far from the glitz of Los Angeles. Earlier this month, he told Esquire that living on a farm in France has been the perfect antidote to Hollywood chaos.

“You know, we live on a farm in France,” he shared. “A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated it. But now, for them, it’s great — they’re not on their iPads. They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”

It’s easy to imagine the Clooneys’ quiet countryside home, Amal reading in the garden, George flipping pancakes, and their twins chasing each other between olive trees. A peaceful picture that feels a million miles from L.A. traffic and paparazzi flashbulbs.

“I was worried about raising our kids in L.A.,” Clooney said. “I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France — they kind of don’t give a s--- about fame. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
