Victoria and David Beckham are no strangers to the public’s infatuation with their lives. As one of Hollywood’s strongest couples, their love story has not come without drama. Over two decades ago, an alleged affair nearly broke them.
In 2004, British and international tabloids exploded when David’s then–personal assistant, Rebecca Loos, claimed she had a four-month affair with him shortly after he transferred from Manchester United to Real Madrid. Loos has always stayed true to her story and has never backed down. Even as recently as March 2025, she sat down with 60 Minutes Australia to talk about it.
Victoria was a recent guest on Call Her Daddy, when host Alex Cooper brought up “speculations” without naming Loos. “You’ve dealt with speculations throughout your whole career about your marriage,” Cooper said. “I know David touched on this in the documentary. Can you just explain how you and David handled this?”
The Spice Girls OG gently addressed the question before changing the topic. “Do you know we’ve had so much thrown at us, and we were talking about it because we’ve recently celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary,” she said. “And by the way, people said it wouldn’t work … 26 years!”
She added, “We’ve had so much thrown at us and we’ve always just been there together and just ridden the damn storm.”
That “storm” wasn’t subtle. The headlines were relentless. Paparazzi followed Victoria everywhere, especially when she would fly back and forth between the U.K. and Madrid with her young sons, Brooklyn and Romeo.
Their marriage immediately became tabloid currency. Loos continued to fuel the fire with interviews, magazine spreads, and even reality TV appearances.
The alleged affair became one of the most infamous celebrity cheating scandals of the 2000s, especially since the Beckhams were seen as the golden couple at the height of “Posh and Becks” fame.
The tension inside the marriage wasn't just rumored - it was real. In Netflix’s 2023 Beckham doc, Victoria admitted that this was the moment they were almost broken. “It was the hardest period of our lives,” she said. “Because it felt like the world was against us. Here’s the thing - we were against each other, if I’m being completely honest.”
She continued, “Up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else, but we were connected… but when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. It was a nightmare. It was an absolute circus - and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town, right? Unless you’re in it.”
As for David, he explained, “There were some horrible stories that were difficult to deal with. It was the first time that Victoria and I had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage.”
Two decades later
Fast-forward two decades, to 2025, the scandal resurfaced again when Loos reappeared in a 60 Minutes Australia documentary, calling her decision to speak out “brave.”
“In my opinion, it was a very brave thing to do to go up against them,” she said of the couple. “I have stuck to the truth. I’ve never exaggerated. I never lied about a single thing,” she insisted.
She painted herself as both heartbroken and retaliatory: “I kind of felt the way he treated me was very unfair… I just kind of wanted to make him feel some pain too… when you’re 26 years old, it’s how you react to heartache and pain.”
While only they know the truth, it’s clear the Beckhams got through it together.
