Brazilian global pop star Anitta is known for her chart-topping hits, bold personality, and increasing activism, especially when it comes to protecting the Amazon and indigenous communities.
Most recently, the singer took time from her schedule for an impactful meeting with King Charles III and legendary indigenous leader Cacique Raoni, where the trio discussed the urgency of environmental protection and the importance of listening to the voices that have long defended the forest.
“Yesterday I had the honor of meeting with King Charles and Cacique Raoni to chat about the importance of the Amazon and environment,” Anitta shared with her followers on Instagram, alongside photos of the special moment.
“In a humanity that now suffers the consequences of its own choices, the indigenous people and their relation with nature remind us that protecting the forest is ensuring life and future. We thank Your Majesty for listening to this important message," she added.
The meeting was part of a larger initiative in partnership with cultural platform Liberatum, which honored Cacique Raoni, one of Brazil’s most respected indigenous leaders, for his lifelong dedication to defending indigenous rights and the Amazon rainforest.
The event took place at St James’s Palace and brought together scientists, business leaders, and indigenous voices. The meeting included the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance, "an organization established by His Majesty as Prince of Wales in 2020."
The official Royal Family account explained that the evening followed a day of vital discussions exploring the relationships "between Nature and human health, bringing together experts from across the globe to share knowledge and innovative solutions."
“This award was a way to thank you for your courage, your voice, and for keeping alive the hope that there is still time, if we learn to listen to those who have always known how to care,” Anitta declared.
Anitta’s advocacy for environmental justice goes far beyond symbolic appearances. In a passionate post earlier this year on Brazil’s Indigenous Peoples Day, she called attention to the ongoing political threats facing indigenous communities and lands in Brazil.
“Electricity and water bills are already more expensive. Have you noticed?” she wrote in Portuguese. “It’s floods on one side, droughts and uncontrolled fires on the other. At this rate, food will soon become a luxury item. All of this is because of climate change.”
She went on to denounce legislative efforts that aim to roll back indigenous land protections, including proposals that would permit mining, large-scale infrastructure projects, and halt the demarcation of indigenous territories.
“Now they’re threatening the very people who still ensure things don’t get worse, the ones we should be recognizing and supporting for a better present and future! Yes, we’re talking about indigenous peoples and lands," she wrote.
As Anitta continues to make waves in the global music scene, she’s also emerging as a powerful voice for environmental and indigenous causes.
