Amal Clooney just unveiled her shortest hairstyle in years, trading her signature mermaid waves for a voluminous new cut that’s already making headlines, and could soon set trends. Known for her cascading, waist-length curls, the celebrated human rights lawyer has gone for a dramatic refresh this fall.

Stylist Dimitris Giannetos, who’s behind the transformation, shared the reveal on Instagram. “A new chop for Amal Clooney!” he wrote, coining the term “the bubble blowout” to describe the sleek, rounded shape of the look. While it's still long by most standards, falling to her mid-chest, it’s a major shift for Clooney.

Giannetos, who also does Clooney’s makeup, has leaned into the seasonal trend, recently experimenting with “toasted” tones across her beauty look.

According to Vogue, Giannetos lopped off “between six and eight inches” of her hair. “Amal has never had a haircut like this before,” he told the magazine, noting that it was finished with a straight blow-dry and a subtle curl at the ends. Her new side-parted style adds bounce and body, giving the hair a slightly rounded finish that lives up to its bubbly name.

A color refresh accompanied the cut as well. Her rich, brunette base has gone a touch darker for autumn, offset by soft, “toasted almond” highlights that frame her face. It’s not just a style shift, the timing of this “power cut” aligns with a major moment in Clooney’s professional life. The Clooney Foundation for Justice has just announced a global partnership with The Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice, aiming to leverage AI and innovation to help women and girls access justice more effectively.

Amal's rich, warm brunette tones, layered with golden dimension, looked absolutely stunning as well.

Giannetos called the cut “sophisticated and modern,” saying simply, “It’s a power cut.” She debuted the look in a navy tea dress with a plunging V-neck and button details, both elegant and understated, letting the haircut speak for itself.

On social media, fans were quick to point out how fresh and energized the change made her appear. “No matter what length her hair is, Clooney is always going to be #hairgoals,” Giannetos captioned one of the snaps.

Longtime Clooney admirers will recognize just how much this update stands out. Her thick, glossy hair has become almost iconic over the years, often styled in soft, Hollywood curls that fell nearly to her waist.

Whether she was walking the red carpet, attending court, or strolling through city streets, her blowouts were always photo-ready. Even with the length gone, her new style retains the drama and polish she’s known for, just with a little more edge.
