George Clooney has never been shy about cracking a joke, but behind the humor is a man who genuinely lights up when talking about his family. At 64, while promoting his latest film, "Jay Kelly" at Alice Tully Hall during the New York Film Festival, Clooney opened up about what separates him from the movie’s main character, and it all comes down to love, connection, and the joy of being a dad.
With his signature wit, Clooney poked fun at his similarities with the film’s title character. “We have the same hair and we're the same height,” he teased, before pointing out how the differences really matter. Unlike Jay Kelly, who finds himself lost and surrounded by people he pays, Clooney reflected on the richness of his own life.
“I've been very lucky to have great family and great friends, and my kids actually like me still,” he quipped. Then, with the comedic timing only Clooney can deliver, he added, “They're young.”
Parenthood with Amal Clooney
Since welcoming twins Alexander and Ella in June 2017 with wife Amal Clooney, the couple has been careful about giving their children a private childhood. But every so often, Clooney shares little windows into their world.
During a February appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Clooney shared how his son Alexander, a budding chess enthusiast, has been learning the importance of sportsmanship. “He’s 7 years old, playing a lot of older kids,” Clooney said. “He's not winning all the time, as you can imagine. And he gets upset, and I said, ‘Listen, you shake the guy's hand and say good game, I'll get you next time.’ And, that's kind of how you got to live by those rules.”
From De Niro to Taylor Swift
The twins are growing up in a world where celebrity names carry little weight in their young eyes. At the 2025 Tony Awards, Clooney revealed that his children are far more interested in seeing Taylor Swift than in recognizing Hollywood legends. “Robert De Niro will be at the house and they’re like, ‘Who’s that?’ They don’t care,” he laughed.
For an actor who has spent decades in the limelight, fame may surround him, but family defines him. And as he put it best, he’s just grateful his kids “still like him.” For now, that’s all the applause he needs.
A Great Husband
It’s hard to imagine a marriage without disagreements, but this seems to be the reality for George and Amal Clooney. Despite being together for over a decade, the Hollywood star and the human rights lawyer said that they have never argued. In an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, George spoke about a 2022 interview where he said they had never had a fight in the years they had been together.
"I feel like the luckiest man in the world every day. I hit the jackpot when I met this incredible woman." Amal echoed this sentiment in another conversation, "It’s maddening to some of our friends," she confessed in 2022.
