It might be tough to look away from Zac Efron's bold new hairstyle, which is a huge contrast to his usual look.
The High School Musical alum has swapped out his trademark dark brown locks for a bright, bleach blonde shade while on vacation with Nina Dobrev, Chace Crawford, Miles Teller, and Keleigh Teller. Dobrev made headlines recently for ending her engagement to Shaun White.
Efron, 37, unveiled his striking hair transformation during a seaside getaway, posing with the group aboard a yacht in a snapshot shared to Keleigh Teller’s Instagram on Sept. 18.
This isn’t the first time the Iron Claw actor has gone for a lighter look. Back in January 2019, he stepped out with platinum blonde hair at the Sundance Film Festival, although he later admitted the change wasn’t meant to last.
“That would be so much work and chemicals,” Zac told Entertainment Tonight in April that year. “I doubt it.”
He went on to reveal that the makeover happened after he lost a friendly wager.
“Eminem was cool when I was growing up,” he noted, adding, “This is my ‘Stan’ coming out.”
Efron also recalled going blonde once as a kid, influenced by one of his childhood idols. And in 2016, he revived another old hairstyle from his younger days—a crimped look he wore back in eighth grade.
“I was at a summer camp for the arts,” he told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “It was just me and a bunch of a lot older girls and they crimped my hair and I thought I was awesome... Anything they told me, I just said, ‘Yes.’ That sounds bad, but it was true.”
“It feels amazing,” Zac said with a laugh.
Nina Dobrev and Shaun White had been together since 2020, and confirmed their engagement last October. However, earlier this month, E! News learned that they had broken up. Now, it seems like Nina is working through her breakup by spending time with friends.
