Orlando Bloom isn’t dwelling on heartbreak. Just two months after confirming he and Katy Perry called off their engagement, the actor is making it clear that gratitude, love, and fatherhood are steering his next chapter. In a refreshingly open interview on the Sept. 5 episode of Today with Craig Melvin, Bloom shared where his head is at.
“I’m great,” he said with a smile. “I’m so grateful. We’ve got a beautiful daughter. You know when you leave everything on the field like I did in this movie, I feel grateful for all of it.”
Despite the end of a nearly decade-long romance, Bloom insists the bond between him and Perry remains strong. “We’re gonna be great,” he added. “It’s nothing but love.”
Katy Perry’s Subtle Response
While Perry hasn’t directly commented on the split, her actions speak volumes. The pop icon has been pouring her energy into her Lifetimes Tour, reminding fans that she’s not only moving forward but thriving. On Aug. 20, she shared a lighthearted moment with a fan who confessed he shared the same name as her ex. Perry paused, then earnestly told him his name was “incredible,” a small but telling glimpse into her graceful sense of humor post-breakup.
United in Parenting
The couple’s top priority is their 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove. A rep for the pair emphasized in a July statement that Bloom and Perry remain dedicated to co-parenting: “Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is—and always will be—raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”
This isn’t Bloom’s first go at parenting. He also shares a 14-year-old son, Flynn, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr. And just like then, he’s handling family life with maturity and openness.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Perry and Bloom have stepped away from each other. Back in 2017, they took a one-year break that Perry later said gave her space to truly find self-love. That experience seems to have prepared both stars to navigate the present moment with wisdom.
As Perry put it during her September 2024 appearance on "Call Her Daddy": “We want to evolve. That’s I think why we’re in our relationship is to become better humans so we can raise this beautiful human being.” What stands out most about Bloom’s outlook is his refusal to let heartbreak cloud the bigger picture. He’s leaning into gratitude, co-parenting, and creative fulfillment.
After their split, Bloom's Instagram Stories have become a quiet diary. On June 30, the 48-year-old posted a quote from Buddha: "Each day is a new beginning. What we do today is what matters most." While it is subtle, it's layered with meaning for anyone paying attention.
