Tamar Braxton shocked the internet on August 19th when she revealed she "almost died" with no recollection of what happened to her when she was found in a pool of blood. Now, there seems to be an explanation.
The 48-year-old shared a few details when the incident occurred, leaving fans room to speculate things like whether she was the victim of a crime, or if it was related to drugs or alcohol. But after medical tests, it seems like it was a sleepwalking incident.
A cosmetic dentist named Amira Ogunleye, DDS, who worked with Braxton, revealed the news in a collaboration Instagram post, saying she was contacted by the singer's team, who reported a "very traumatic injury." She echoed Braxton's story, saying she woke up in a pool of blood, with many fractured teeth on the floor. "She flew to me immediately within 24 hours. Upon evaluation, I confirmed that she did, in fact, have several fractured teeth. She even had an evulsed tooth, which is a tooth that's come completely out of the socket. She also appeared to have a fractured septum," the dentist explained.
They performed immediate oral surgery. She said the medical team ruled out seizure and stroke, and the only thing left was sleepwalking. For the Big Brother alum, the experience has made her want to help. The actress left a comment on the post saying, "You have given me the courage to help so many other people! I’m so grateful for you."
Despite the dentist's update and intense photographic evidence, not everyone is convinced. People online have speculated that it is a publicity stunt, with others saying they think it was a result of drugs or alcohol.
What happened?
On the morning of August 19, Braxton shared a screenshot of text. "I struggled to write this, but everyone keeps calling me, and honestly, I can’t even really talk anymore. I’m so weak," she began. “I almost died Sunday."
According to Braxton, she was "found in a pool of blood" by her friend with a face injury. "As the days go by, the worse it is. I fractured my nose, lost some teeth, and mobility," Braxton continued.
As expected after a life-changing event, she said, "The way I look at life now is totally different. As my health is on the mend, my mental journey begins… pray for me for real. I don't even know what happened to me."
According to the dentist, she is stabilized and is now healing.
