A professor in Texas is going viral after a hilarious clip showed him canceling class after learning about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement. "We need time to process this information," he explains.
The clip begins with Professor Matthew Pittman at the front of the class with a projector of the engagement on the screen. "We have a bio-chem midterm today, but Taylor and Travis just got engaged. Due to this information, I can't focus, you all can't focus; therefore, class is canceled," he says in the clip as students put on their backpacks amid the gasps and run outside class.
The clip has 4.8 million views, with many thinking it's real. Outlets have reposted the news on social media, which has garnered comments like "bring back masculinity," judging the professor. But the story is actually even greater.
The class is a social media class, not biochem, at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Their Instagram account is filled with hilarious videos that go viral with out-of-pocket grade reveals, extra credit if the students walk to out to sad songs, a hired DJ to celebrate 99% of students who passed midterms, and much more chaos.
It's unclear what parts are real and what parts are the class doing a hilarious experiment on social media as part of their assignment. The profile has 27.3k followers on Instagram and 55.3k. Followers on TikTok, where they have amassed 13.7M likes.
Pittman shared another video after the engagement, walking on campus, discussing it from a marketing perspective and as a fan. "I don’t know how anybody can be expected to focus on school work or anything work or career related right now. This is pretty big news. It’s gonna take a few days to process all of this. Does this change "Life of a Showgirl" now? Is this Travis's last season?" he asked.
He went on to praise their "perfect" social media post, saying it will be the most shared and liked post in the history of social media. He also praised her strategy, saying she took just enough time off after the football season to be back with the media fury. "It’s gonna be everywhere for a long time. This is gonna be crazy," he continued, comparing it to the royal wedding and what it's going to spark with brands. "It’s almost too much, it's very exciting. I’m only half joking, like it’s legit, really exciting."
Taylor and Travis announced their engagement on Instagram after two years of dating, with a stunning ring on August 26. According to his dad, the football star proposed two weeks ago at a garden in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
