Miley Cyrus might be ready to get the best of both worlds again. Hannah Montana is back in the spotlight as the iconic show gears up to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2026. The show debuted in March 2006, and Miley just gave fans enough breadcrumbs to make them spiral over the thought of a reboot or tour.
According to Google Trends, searches for “Hannah Montana anniversary” spiked by +4,900% this past week, making it the top trending “anniversary” overall. Even wilder? “Is Miley Cyrus bringing back Hannah Montana?” was a breakout search - along with a surge of fans asking: “Is Hannah Montana going on tour?”
The internet is back in its Hannah Montana era
March 2021 marked the show’s official 15th anniversary, and Miley celebrated with a heartfelt letter “to Hannah” on Instagram.
This week’s spike seems to have come after an interview with Chris Olsen for TikTok Radio, where she revealed she wants to do something for the "20-year Hannahversary in March!” “I want to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this,” she told him. “Without Hannah, there really wouldn’t be this kind of - this me.”
“It’s crazy to think that I started as a character that I thought was going to be impossible to shed, and now that’s something that when I walk into a space, it’s looked at as this sense of kind of nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood,” she said, adding, "So, that’s exciting to get to celebrate that.”
Her statements have led to a full-blown rumor that she is going back on tour, with people dancing on TikTok in Hannah Montana shirts.
So… is a reboot or tour really happening?
While the thought of Miley going on tour is exciting, she's made it clear in past interviews that she has no desire to hit the road again. She told Good Morning America on July 15, “I do have the physical ability, and I have the opportunity to tour. I wish I had the desire, but I don’t. I also don't think that there is actually an infrastructure that supports artists." So if she doesn't even want to tour her own music, it's very unlikely she will want to do it as Hannah Montana.
As for a reboot, the show is on Disney, while the network does have a history of bringing back fan-favorite shows, Hannah Montana could come with more obstacles. When it comes to the overall brand, Miley did her best to distance herself from that era of her life, and her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, has also made some less-than-Disney-like headlines.
While Miley seems to have softened to the idea of a tribute or special, a full reboot seems unlikely. A Miley-led, nostalgic, one-off moment on her terms seems more realistic.
