Shakira and her sons were in for a surprise at Coldplay's concert in Miami. The concert, hosted at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami over the weekend, welcomed thousands of people to listen to some of Coldplay's most beloved and timeless hits. Some of these fans were Shakira, her sons, Sasha and Milan, and the boys' adorable friends. During the show, Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin surprised Shakira and the audience with a subtle yet unmistakable shout-out.
The shoutout occurred while Martin and his band were performing "Yellow," one of their biggest hits from their 2000 record "Parachute." As the band played through the song, they paused, with Martin saying "Hips Don't Lie" to the mic, prompting an excited reaction from the public.
Shakira shared her reaction on social media, recording multiple videos. "Hips Don't Lie into Yellow!" she wrote over the video that captured the moment. "Never thought I'd hear that. Coldplay, thanks for the shout out, that's one of my favorite songs of yours."
"Thank you for having us and for sharing your talent, humanity, and kindness, and for sending a message of tolerance and love into the world. We all need it!"
More of her videos showed Shakira singing along to "Yellow" and recording her sons' reaction to the song, including an adorable moment where the boys and their friends sang with their arms wrapped around each other.
Shakira also shared more photos on her Instagram, showing her and her boys accompanying the band on their pre-show huddle, with photographers capturing them with their hands in the air, standing close together in a tight circle. Another photo shows them all with their arms wrapped around eachother.
"Thanks for having me and my boys be a part of such a special moment! Thanks for your kind words too," Shakira wrote in the post's caption.
Shakira and Chris Martin's friendship
Shakira and Chris Martin have been friends for years, with the two performing together over the years and working as coaches and mentors on "The Voice" in 2024.
Following her split from Gerard Piqué, Shakira spoke about the people in her life who supported her in her most challenging time, listing Martin as one of them. "He was there for me when I got separated and was heartbroken," said Shakira to Rolling Stone in 2024.
"He was checking in every day to see how I was doing, sending me words of support and strength and wisdom."
