Having a dad become President must be a surreal experience. In a new podcast appearance, Michelle Obama shared the story of Barack Obama's rise to the presidency, an especially funny one when viewed through the eyes of their eldest daughter Malia.

In an appearance on the podcast "Las Culturistas," Michelle and her brother Craig discussed all sorts of topics, including Obama's rise to presidency. The story takes place in 2008, when Obama won the presidential elections and their daughters Malia and Sasha were 10 and 7 years old, respectively.

Michelle explained that through the process of elections, they tried to keep the kids as entertained and distracted as possible. "Most of the time they were playing," she said. "We set it up so their cousins are there on election nights."

She said that election nights were house parties of sorts, with the kids having the perfect excuse to stay up late and eat chicken fingers. The night when Obama finally became President, they were all in the car, and Malia was expecting a big party.

Malia was surprised by the low turnout at the celebration

"So we're in the car on the way to Grant Park and there's this deep silence and we're all quiet and the kids are in the back and Malia says... 'Dad, I don't think anybody's coming to your party,' because no one was on the street," prompting laughs from the hosts.

"And we were like, 'No, sweetie. This is what happens now that your dad is President. No one will ever be on the street when your dad is here again."

Malia and Sasha went on to live in the White House for eight years, spending the majority of their teenage years there.

The two young women are now based in Los Angeles and have opted for a life away from politics and the spotlight.
