The last 48 hours have been a whirlwind for Alejandro Sanz. The 56-year-old singer has found himself in the middle of a scandal after a fan’s viral testimony. On June 15, a woman named Ivet Playà took to TikTok and Instagram to allege that what started as typical fan behavior on social media turned into a friendship that moved offline and grew into an “intimate” relationship that made her feel “used, humiliated, and even dirty.” Playà just turned 26 in May, and according to her, this all started ten years ago, which would have made her around 16.
Now, the "Corazón Partío," "Bésame", "La Tortura," and "Mi Marciana" singer has issued a public statement in response. Here's the full text:
"Ivet, I had a very beautiful memory of the two of us, two adults sharing their affection, being free. What a shame that this feeling has now been broken. In the month of May, you offered me the chance to invest in some of your family businesses, and after reviewing it with my advisors, I told you no. I’m sorry that your reaction is this, but I want you to know that I have never taken part in these kinds of practices and never will. I hope that you soon find your path and happiness."
This is Sanz’s first public comment since Playà’s video, which now has over 700k views on TikTok, started gaining traction online. The allegations come after the release of his new EP, ¿Y ahora qué?, and ahead of his post-summer tour through Mexico. At the same time, rumors are circulating about a possible split from actress Candela Márquez.
Ivet Playà’s statement
Playà was unknown to the public until she posted a TikTok video sitting in a chair: “I'm here because I need to share my story with Alejandro Sanz, for the girl I was, but above all, for the woman I am today," she began.
There is no denying they knew each other. Playà shared photos and videos of herself and Sanz, and screenshots of him interacting with her posts with "likes" and comments. According to Playà, it all began in 2015: "I was his fan, and he followed me on social media. I was amazed that someone like him, so famous and so loved by everyone, would send me private messages, comment on my photos, and even post my things on his social media, and the bond grew stronger."
According to her, they met privately when she turned 18, while Sanz was 49. She said that when she turned 22, she left Barcelona and moved to Madrid alone because Sanz hired her to work for him. "My personal connection with him became unavoidable and turned into something intimate and sexual. I thought I was living a dream by his side, but in reality, it became a nightmare. He crossed the lines of what I consider to be moral, even human,” she said.
Now a digital creative director and gymnast, she claims: “He bulldozed over me. He scared me." "I believe he lives in a parallel reality he’s been building for many years, and I think he feels he’s above right and wrong. That’s incredibly dangerous—because deep down, he is. No one dares to stand up to him. But with me, no contracts were signed. I feel a moral responsibility because I think I’m one of the few who can do it. To stand here and show that sooner or later, the truth comes to light," Playà added.
"He was wrong about me until the very end. I'm no longer that little girl who was willing to do anything to be closer to him. The Ivet of today knows what a healthy, proportional, and reciprocal bond is and recognizes when someone does things from the heart and when someone feels so empty inside that they only feel good about using the hearts of others," she continued.
