Lourdes Leon, Madonna’s eldest daughter and rising musical talent, continues to turn heads with her performances and artistry. This time, with a captivating DJ set at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Festival, she showcased her passion for music and made the crowd dance on the Cupra stage.
Her recent set at Primavera Sound followed a recent NYC show where she showcased not only her DJ skills but also her vocal talent. At The Box in Manhattan, Lourdes wore a striking all-red ensemble and delivered an intimate performance.
Lourdes’s Primavera Sound performance isn’t her first experience at the iconic Spanish festival. In May 2024, she performed a smaller set at a pre-party event at Etnia Barcelona for an intimate crowd ahead of the 2024 festival.
Since her 2022 debut single 'Lock&Key,' Lourdes has built a growing reputation on stages like Brava Madrid and Parklife in Manchester, steadily gaining recognition for her genre-blending sound. But beyond her musical skills, Lourdes has opened up about a profound personal transformation that fuels her artistry as a whole.
In an interview with i-D Magazine, Lourdes revealed how dance shaped her artistic path. She trained in ballet until she was 19 but discovered that traditional ballet didn’t emotionally connect with her.
“I grew up doing ballet until I was 19, and when I went to [SUNY] Purchase, I discovered modern dance, and it changed my life because I knew I didn’t want to be a ballet dancer, I wasn’t emotionally connected to it,” she said.
This discovery led her to Gaga dance, a sensory-based improvisational technique created by Ohad Naharin of the Batsheva Dance Company. “It’s a sensory-based improv where you are pushing your body to every limit it can possibly go, and giving yourself no limitations,” Lourdes explained.
For her, dance and music are intertwined: “I think dance and music are synonymous.” Her approach to creating music reflects this authentic, collaborative spirit.
Her celebrity family has been supportive of every aspect of her career, including her modeling career. But when it comes to the stage, Madonna, who attended Lourdes’s NYC show, expressed her pride publicly, calling her "Little star."
"Can’t wait for everyone to hear your new music!!! So proud of you," the pop icon shared. Meanwhile, Lourdes continues to carve out her own identity in music.
