Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez might be keeping their wedding planning under wraps, but the producer is not keeping his mouth shut about his desire to have children.
In a recent interview with InStyle, the hitmaker said he is already thinking about starting a family. “I love kids; I love being an uncle. I want to be a dad, though, God willing,” he said. “I’m just dreaming and praying every day.”
What Selena has said about motherhood
Gomez has been candid in the past about not being able to carry her own children due to health complications. In a Vanity Fair interview, she revealed, “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
The Only Murderers in the Building star also lives with lupus - an autoimmune disease that led to a kidney transplant in 2017 - as well as bipolar disorder, which she manages with medication. Back in 2022, she told Rolling Stone that the meds she takes could make pregnancy risky, but her dream of becoming a mom hasn’t changed. “I’m one of those people,” she said of wanting kids.
“I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different,” she added. “At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.” Adoption and surrogacy are both options she's seriously considering - her mom was adopted, and she’s called that a blessing in their family.
Whatever happens, they have the perfect place to build a nest. The couple already dropped $35 million on a massive Spanish-style estate in Beverly Hills earlier this year, which Benny has been busy filling with “creativity and heart.” “I love making a house my own,” he said. "I hate it when you go into a person’s house and you’re like, ‘Ooh, it feels like nobody lives here!’ I don’t want to be scared to sit down on s–t.”
In the same interview, Blanco gushed about how his mom has helped him be the perfect partner who can understand women’s emotions. “My mom always took the time to explain how a female mind works because she was going through so many dating traumas when I was growing up,” he said.
A child of divorce, he explained that he basically had to teach himself emotional intelligence since no men in his life modeled it. He also learned what to do and what not to do by watching his friends, saying most men are “so bad” with women and don't listen to their needs. “A woman will tell you exactly what she needs,” he said. “Like, you should always ask a woman what they wanna do."
In terms of his past relationships, Blanco admitted it's all about trial and error. "Don’t always talk about yourself. Then you put it into practice… and you f–k up so much, oh my God,” he said, saying he’s kissed a lot of "beautiful frogs” before finding Gomez. He also offered some advice for the ladies - "don't settle."
