Georgina Rodríguez made her Met Gala debut on May 5, and it’s safe to say she made it count. Inspired by Princess Diana, her regal look turned heads on the blue carpet, and although Cristiano Ronaldo wasn't by her side, she shone alone and opened up about her life with the press. Gio was one of the few Latinos on the blue carpet, and she proudly spoke about her Latin roots and love of dance.

Speaking to Despierta América, Georgina explained why Ronaldo wasn’t by her side for the big night: “Cristiano couldn’t come because he has a match the day after tomorrow,” she said. Still, he didn’t miss the chance to hype her up from afar. “He told me I looked beautiful—what else would he say?” she added with a smile.

The Soy Georgina star, who traveled to New York with her kids, opened up about her longtime connection to dance. “Dancing is therapy for me. I started ballet at four. I’m 31 now, and I danced for 17 years,” she said, noting that her recent salsa videos are just an extension of something that’s always been part of her. “I dance salsa because it’s what my soul and body ask for. I love doing it with a classical style,” she said.

Georgina was born in Buenos Aires to an Argentine father, Jorge Rodríguez, and a Spanish mother, Ana María Hernández, and she quipped that she might start a new dance trend. “I’m Latina, I’m Argentine, but I also have a deep ballet background - I trained at the Royal Ballet School. Maybe I’ll start a new trend: classical salsa," she said.

Her biggest fans

And while she was in the spotlight at the Met, she had her biggest fans watching her debut on TV. After the event, the proud mom shared an adorable snap of Alana Martina and 7-year-old twins Eva María and Mateo watching her on the Vogue stream.

Exclusive events and carpet aside, Georgina has always made it clear that motherhood is her biggest priority. “Being a mother is the best thing that’s ever happened to me - it’s my top priority,” she previously told Vogue México y Latinoamérica. “Watching my kids grow up happy and spending time together as a family is my biggest blessing. I couldn’t be more thankful for the beautiful family we’ve built.”
