The famed guitarist was expected to take the stage in San Antonio, Texas, at the Majestic Theatre, but was rushed to the hospital Tuesday evening. The San Antonio Fire Department confirmed he was taken out of the venue on a gurney during soundcheck around 5 PM, per TMZ.

Thankfully, it was a non-life-threatening condition, later determined to be dehydration. His manager explained in a statement that they postponed the show “out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana.”

“He is doing well and is looking forward to coming back to San Antonio soon, as well as continuing his U.S. tour,” his manager, Michael Vrionis, confirmed to KTVU.

His next scheduled show on the Oneness Tour is Wednesday in Sugar Land, Texas. Since his manager didn’t mention any changes to that date, it seems like everything is going as planned for him to get back on schedule.

Not the first time

This isn’t the first time Santana has dealt with dehydration. In July 2022, he collapsed onstage during his Miraculous Supernatural 2022 Tour, from what was later confirmed as heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Santana, who was 74 at the time, was performing at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, when he passed out. It was later reported that the dehydration came after a bout of food poisoning. He was able to return two weeks later and finished out the tour.

The scare made him reflect on life and mortality after the deaths of close friends Jeff Beck and Burt Bacharach. “They transitioned to the next side. I’m still here and I’m very, very grateful. I have more energy than before,” he told the Detroit Free Press. “I have more determination to go 150% with my boots on.”

The guitarist, originally from Jalisco, Mexico, turns 78 on July 20.
