New details have emerged about actor Manuel Masalva, who’s currently hospitalized in Dubai. Known for roles in shows like Narcos, he fell seriously ill after contracting a rare bacteria during a trip through Asia. According to a GoFundMe page created to support his medical care, doctors have identified the bacteria, and he’s now undergoing intensive treatment.
Given the complexity and cost of medical care abroad, Masalva’s friends and family have turned to the public for help. “The medical costs are enormous, and in a country where everything is more complicated, any help—no matter how small—can make a difference during this tough time,” explained Mario Morán. That’s why they launched the GoFundMe page, where supporters can contribute toward covering his treatment. “If you’re able to help, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” he added.
Latest updates on Manuel’s condition
The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive. “Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far—your generosity and support mean everything during this difficult time for Manuel and his loved ones,” reads a message on the fundraiser. “We’re deeply grateful to friends, family, and everyone who’s helped.”
As for the 43-year-old actor’s condition, the update continues: “Manu is still in a delicate state. The bacteria has been identified, he’s on antibiotics, and we’re hoping to see improvement soon.”
The donation goal is $50,000, and as of now, they’re just a few hundred dollars away from reaching it.
Actor Alfonso Dosal shared his excitement on social media about the fundraiser’s success for his friend. “We’re so close to the goal, and my heart is bursting with emotion! It’s amazing how many people have come together to help our ‘Hermanu,’” he wrote.
Early Thursday, he also shared an update on his friend’s condition: “Manuel is still in a delicate state. The bacterial strain has been identified, and treatment has begun. We’re praying his body responds well to the antibiotics.”
