The country star will be performing 'America the Beautiful' at the inauguration, and fans have shared mixed reactions about the announcement. 'The View' co-hosts talked about the different reactions, with Whoopi defending Carrie's decision to perform. "Lots of her fans aren't thrilled about it, but some of her fans are," Whoopi said. “If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform someplace, I believe [she has] the same right," the media personality explained.

"I have to support. It doesn’t mean I’m particularly interested," she added, revealing that she will not be watching the ceremony. The group of co-hosts talked about politics in music and entertainment. "It's also a very interesting day," Whoopi said, as it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Meanwhile, Carrie said she wants to bring a message of unity in her decision to perform. "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future," the singer said in her statement.

This is not the first time Carrie has talked about public opinion regarding politics. “I feel like more people try to pin me places politically," she said to The Guardian in 2019. "I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins."
