Fall has arrived, bringing cooler weather, a fresh wave of trends, and plenty of new looks to try during pumpkin season. This year, all eyes are on haircuts, the styles that will set the tone in salons everywhere.

Whether you’re ready for a bold short cut or prefer to keep your length with movement and volume, experts reveal the top haircuts expected to trend this fall.

“Before cutting, I always observe the hair in its natural state,” explains stylist Rosi Fernández, director of Ananda Ferdi Salon. “If there are waves or irregularities, they help me decide how to work with it. Unless it’s very straight hair and the client wants a straight cut, I don’t brush before cutting.”

Here are the haircuts you’ll see everywhere this Fall:

The Measured Bob

The bob remains a timeless favorite that adapts beautifully to facial features and personal style. Hair designer and Redken ambassador Juandiegoteo confirms:

“This season, the bob has endless possibilities: polished, bold, structured, straight, or even wavy. The jaw-length bob is a classic: elegant and versatile. It can be worn with sleek lines for sophistication or with soft layers and movement for a bolder, trendier finish.”

Oval and long face shapes benefit most, as the bob frames the jawline and highlights features. It also transitions effortlessly from straight and polished to soft, relaxed waves.

Fran Galán, stylist at The Beauty Concept salon, also recommends the French bob:

“It’s elegant, effortless, and comfortable. The French bob has a light texture with uneven ends, falling just above the shoulders.”

Short Cuts

Pixies, mixies, and mullets are the three short styles experts predict will dominate the fall/winter season. These bold looks are full of personality and freshness.

“Well-adapted shortcuts have an expressive power,” says Juandiegoteo. “Think of the classic garçon cut, but modernized with longer, strategically placed strands to add movement and individuality. They’re also practical and easy to maintain day to day.”

Perfect for those seeking a radical change that completely transforms their image.

The “Trinity” Cut

Inspired by the character Trinity from The Matrix (played by Carrie-Anne Moss), this futuristic cut blends pixie and bob aesthetics with a cyberpunk edge. Fran Galán explains:

“It’s a short haircut with tapered front strands and slightly longer layers. The result is a bold, edgy style that is also easy to maintain.”

Layers With Volume

For those who prefer to keep their length, layered cuts designed to maximize volume will be everywhere. With a touch of rockstar energy, this look rejuvenates instantly and is especially flattering for fine hair.

“It’s a cut that always works because it brings youthfulness,” says Juandiegoteo. “Front layers add softness to facial features while giving lightness, even to thicker hair. It’s flattering, versatile, and adapts to different lengths.”

Somewhere between layered cuts and the modern mullet, this boho-chic style has always been avant-garde. This fall, it’s reinvented with longer, softer lines, perfect for textured hair and certain to be one of the season’s most popular styles before autumn ends.

The Final Word

For Juandiegoteo, the most important trend is embracing natural movement:

“Hair is not static; it’s a living accessory that moves, changes, and adapts to each person. These cuts allow you to play, reinvent yourself, and feel good about your own image.”
