Latina Royals: Queen Maxima, Alessandra de Osma and more who’ve married into royalty

These Latina royals remain proud of their roots

Many people do not associate Latinas with royals – but guess what – they exist! Argentina-born Queen Maxima is a Monarch of The Netherlands, but she remains true to her Latina heritage, maintaining her warmth and Argentina citizenship. Princess Alessandra de Osma, who’s married to Prince Christian of Hanover (and expecting twins), is originally from Peru, and she and her Prince had a beautiful religious ceremony in her hometown back in 2018.

Then there is Afro-Latina Princess Angela Gisela Brown of Liechtenstein, who not many people know about. Originally from Panama, the brunette beauty married Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein in January 2000. Ahead of saying yes to the man of her dreams, she studied at Parsons School of Design in New York and worked as a fashion director for Adrienne Vittadini before launching her own line, A. Brown.

Alessandra de Osma

Alessandra, who’s married to Prince Christian of Hanover, is originally from Peru. The couple met in 2005 when she was his tour guide in her native country. She and the Prince tied the knot in London in 2017, followed by a beautiful religious ceremony a year later in Alessandra’s hometown of San Pedro de Lima. The gorgeous Latina, who is pregnant for the first time with twins, is a qualified lawyer and co-founder of luxury handbags label Moi&Sass.

Queen Maxima

Queen Maxima may be the ruler of The Netherlands, but she was actually born in Argentina. She married King Willem-Alexander during a civil ceremony in 2002 and thus also gained Dutch citizenship. Upon marrying the King, Maxima won over the country with her Latina warmth and charisma and bold sense of style.

Princess Tatiana of Greece

Tatiana Blatnik, who was born in Venezuela, became royalty when she married her long-time love, Prince Nikolaos in 2010. However, the former consultant for Diane von Furstenberg once noted that despite her title, she didn’t feel like royalty. “I do not feel like a Princess,” she said. “I do not feel that I married a Prince. Well actually, yes, he is my Prince, but nothing more.”

Maria Teresa, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg

Maria Teresa obtained her royal title when she married Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg on February 14, 1981. The humanitarian and philanthropist was raised in the United States after fleeing from Cuba with her family at the age of three.

“There is an attachment there that I just can’t explain nor wish to lose because I recognize myself in the people of this lovely island – in their high spirits and friendliness and warmth, which is so special. They are qualities which have helped me a lot in my beloved Luxembourg and in my role as wife of the sovereign,” she once said of her native Cuba.
