Helen Mirren on being the new face of L'Oreal: 'I am not gorgeous'

Helen Mirren is many things: Oscar winner, master twerker, and now — the new L'Oreal Paris UK Ambassador!

Helen's new appointment marks the first time the gorgeous 69-year-old has been named the face of a beauty brand. As such, she joins the rankings of fellow actresses such as Blake Lively, Naomi Watts, Lea Michele and Jennifer Lopez.

“I am truly delighted to become an ambassador and join such an impressive group of high-achievers," Helen told the Telegraph. "I am not gorgeous and I never was. I was always OK looking and I’m keen to stay that way.”

Though humble about her appearance, the actress wasn't one to pass up an opportunity to work with the iconic beauty company.

“I have always loved the L’Oreal Paris brand, and I hope I can inspire other women towards greater confidence by making the most of their natural good looks," she continued. "We are all worth it!”

Dame Helen joins the brand’s impressive list of age-defying stars like Diane Keaton, 68, and Jane Fonda, 76. In the first images to be released from the new relationship, the British actress looks sassy and smoldering while posing for the camera in a chic black suit that allows her natural beauty to shine through.

“She is subtle and alluring,” said L'Oreal general manager Elen Macaskill. “To women in the arts she’s an inspiration and a tireless supporter of emerging talent. As you can tell, I’m a huge fan and we’re incredibly excited to introduce her as an ambassador for our brand.”

Ever since her role in the 2006 film The Queen, for which she won an Oscar, Helen has become a household name, though she'd been a successful actor for decades before that. Since her award-winning turn as the British monarch, she has met the real Queen Elizabeth several times.

“You’re thinking ‘it’s the Queen, it’s the Queen’,” she told Sky News. When asked whether she still gets star-struck, she replied, "Of course, even more so I think because I feel self-conscious, you know... I am genuinely always astounded by her aura, her twinkle, her presence. It never fails to surprise me, and again it’s what everyone says when they meet her — it was what overwhelmed me the first time I met her.”
