Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander celebrate their teen daughter Princess Alexia

Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander have another teenager on their hands. The royal couple’s daughter Princess Alexia celebrated her 13th birthday on Tuesday, June 26. To mark the occasion, the Dutch Royal Palace shared an official portrait of the birthday girl with a message that read: “Princess Alexia is celebrating her thirteenth birthday today.” The teen looks all grown-up in the image leaning against a wall, while wearing a velvet black dress and styling her hair down in loose waves to frame her face.

The photograph was taken back in March at the royal palace in Amsterdam. Photographer Erwin Olaf took the image along with others featuring her parents and sisters Princess Catharina-Amalia, 14, and Princess Ariane, 11. Photos from the glamorous shoot were first shared in April to celebrate the King's 5th anniversary of enthronement.

The Dutch royal family has been through a difficult period as of late. Maxima’s younger sister Ines Zorreguieta took her own life earlier this month in Argentina. The royal mom-of-three returned to royal duties last week to visit the Proton Therapy Center in Groningen, where she made a rare statement about her late sister.

“This place means so much to people with cancer. People who are sick, yet who hope for a cure. My dear, gifted little sister Inés was sick too. She could find no joy, and she could not be cured," Maxima said. "Our only comfort is that she has now at last found peace. And I would like to say how very grateful we are for the countless letters, messages and tokens of sympathy that we have received. They have really helped us. I’d also like to say thank you for the respect that everyone has shown my family in this very dark period.”
