Prince Ernst August shows support for son's wedding less than a year after opposing firstborn's

After publicly opposing his son Prince Ernst August Jr.’s wedding to Russian designer Ekaterina Malysheva last year, Princess Caroline’s estranged husband Prince Ernst August —  the head of the House of Hanover — has shown his approval for his other son Prince Christian’s marriage to Alessandra de Osma. The 64-year-old unexpectedly traveled to Lima, Peru for the couple’s religious ceremony. The senior Hanoverian royal was spotted attending Christian, 32, and the Peruvian beauty’s pre-wedding dinner on Thursday, March 15.

Prince Ernst Sr., who shares 18-year-old daughter Princess Alexandra with Princess Caroline, made headlines last year for not attending his firstborn’s royal wedding due to a financial dispute. The father-of-three said that “the decision was not easy for me, because it concerns my son. But I am forced to do so in order to preserve the interests of the House of Hanover and the property, including cultural property, which has been its property for centuries.” At the time, the Prince reportedly requested that his son return all of the gifts he was given from 2004 to 2006, including Marienburg Castle.

Prince Ernst Jr., 34, and Ekaterina recently welcomed their first child together — a baby girl named Princess Elisabeth. It’s unclear if the new parents will be in attendance at the royal wedding on Friday, March 16. Christian and Alessandra had the support of the Prince’s Monaco royal step-siblings  — Pierre CasiraghiAndrea Casiraghi and Charlotte Casiraghi — at their civil wedding last November in London

Prince Ernst’s son and the “Princess of the Andes” first met in 2005 during Christian’s visit to Peru. Alessandra, who was only 14 at the time, served as a guide for the Prince. After years of friendship the pair stepped out as a couple in 2011.
