It was a whirlwind first day in Sweden for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s parents kicked off their royal tour of Scandinavia participating in bandy hockey — a sport that originated in Cambridgeshire — on Tuesday, January 30. The royal couple faced-off on the ice, but in the end Prince William came out ahead of his pregnant wife. Following their first engagement, the British royals visited Stockholm’s royal palace, where they met Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Shortly after, William, Kate and the Crown Princess Couple strolled the cobbled streets of Stockholm to Stortorget, the capital city's oldest public square before visiting the Noble Museum. During their walkabout, the Duke chatted with Niklas Schild, 33, who plans to travel to the UK for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's May nuptials. “William told me ‘You’ll be very welcome — it will be a very happy day,'" Niklas recalled. Meanwhile, Kate chatted with two seven-year-olds about tobogganing. The Duchess told the girls "that her children would love that too.”

Later in the day, the Duke and Duchess dropped by Sweden’s national center for architecture and design, ArkDes. During the outing, the pair met some of Sweden's most iconic and global furniture brands – including IKEA. Like most people, the royals revealed they “have Ikea pieces for [their] children’s rooms.”
William and Kate topped off their busy day with a black-tie dinner at the British Ambassador’s residence. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel joined their country’s visiting guests at the formal dinner. During the event, Their Royal Highnesses met Swedish actors Stellan Skarsgård and Alicia Vikander.
